Watermelon originates in southern Africa and was domesticated at least four thousand years ago, having been cultivated in ancient Egypt, it is now cultivated throughout the tropical, subtropical and warm temperate regions of the world.

Citrullus colocynthis, also known as bitter cucumber, is a fruit-bearing plant sometimes used medicinally, citrullus colocynthis is used to treat diabetes, since it may be able to induce insulin secretion from the pancreas after supplementation.

Early variety. Fruit is round, dark green with narrow strips, weight 1,5 - 2,5 kg (3-6 lb). Pulp red, tender, juicy, and sweet. Variety resistant to disease and good transportable. Best uses - fresh.

Crimson Sweet melons, because of their extremely high sugar content and wonderful flavor, are favored in southern gardens; they also adapt well to other climates, making them by far the most popular watermelon in the United States.

Early (65-75 days) open pollinated variety. Green Melons with dark green stripes and spots, weight about 5 kg (11 lbs.) each. Bright-pink, tender, juicy and sweet flesh with very good taste.

This is a sort of late maturity, 85-108 days. Fruits are ball-shaped, white, with barely noticeable light-salad stripes, the surface is smooth, sometimes slightly segmented. Bark of medium thickness (11.0-14.0 millimeters).

Mid-season variety (85-105 days). Excellent taste, 3.5 - 6.5 kg (7.5 - 14.5 lbs.), light green, whitish green exterior, light pinkish red flesh inside, nice flavor, low brix of 9.5-10.5. Excellent diabetic watermelon.

Early variety. Oval-round, light green with b.oard dark green stripes, weight 10-16kg (22-35 lbs.). Excellent, dark red flesh with a crunchy texture and delicious taste. Recommend for growing under temporary film.

Mid-early variety (80 days) with tender delicious pulp, resistant to diseases and prolonged cooling. Number of fees 1-2. Suitable for pickling. Resistant to drought and sharp daily fluctuations in temperature.

80-85 days. One of the earliest watermelons. Superb for the North, but it also grows well in heat and drought. The flesh is red and deliciously sweet. Fruits have a dark rind and weigh 8-12 lbs each.

Plant produces very high yields of large 22 lb dark green watermelons with light green markings. The red flesh is very sweet. This is a variety similar to the Crimson Sweet, but with higher sugar content and better flesh color.

This is a mid-ripening variety of watermelon, vegetative is 84 days. It has a rounded shape of the fruit, an average size of 2.7 kg, sometimes up to 5 kg. Bark of medium thickness, flesh of bright pink color, medium density, juicy.

Janosik is a highly recommended, yellow-flesh Polish breeding. It appears dark green skinned, nearly seedless and 4-5 kg (8,8-11 lbs) in weight. It`s yellow pulp contrasts perfectly other known pinkish and orange varites.

85-95 days. A favourite, this round or oblong watermelon matures early and boasts very sweet crimson flesh with black seeds. It is well known for a good yield of melons that average 8-12 pounds each.

80-85 days. Large 15 to 20-lb melons very tough, striped rind. The flesh is deep red and very firm. Has a high sugar content and is an excellent, big tasty watermelon. AAS winner from 1950.

The variety is resistant to overripe and rotting fruits, has a distinctive appearance. Transportability and storage quality is high. Variety of watermelon "Chumak" is resistant to fusarium wilt. Cold resistant. The taste is excellent.

This is the mid-early variety. Vegetation period is 75-85 days. The fruits are rounded, smooth, average weight 2.5-3.5 kg, light green with wide dark green blurred bands and with a slight wax coating.

An ideal plant for gardeners with limited space, the vines of Polar Lights bush only reach 3-31/2 feet in length. This is an early producer, the juicy and sweet little 6 pound fruit should be ready harvest in 62 days. Flesh is a deep scarlet.

Late variety (86-98 days). Round, smooth green fruits with dark green stripes. Very sweet, tender and juicy plink flesh. Average weight 4-5 kg (9-11 lbs.). High-quality Watermelons in September which can be stored up to 2 month. Resistance to anthracnose.

Heirloom. The classic oblong watermelon, Charleston Gray has red, fiberless flesh and a tough, medium-thick gray-green rind often used for making watermelon rind pickles. At one time this was the predominant watermelon in home gardens and markets.

This is an early watermelon variety - 77-90 days. The fruit is rounded, smooth, light green with wide scalloped stripes. The weight of the commodity fruit is 2.4 kg (up to 5-8 kg). Productivity of 16-32 tons per hectare. Flesh is pink, juicy.

85-95 days. Flesh is a gorgeous strawberry pink, ripening to within a half-inch of the rind, and usually has very few seeds. Fine grained, distinctively flavored and super sweet. It is classed among the best-tasting by those who have tried it.
