In summer it tolerates long droughts. Cedar of Lebanon is a drought-resistant species. Tolerates a short-term drop in temperature to −30 °C, but dies during any prolonged period of negative temperatures. Light-loving, drought-resistant, undemanding to soil, but suffers greatly from excess moisture. Prefers to grow in free sunny areas.
One of the distinctive features of this species is the curved, as if broken, crown, however, a similar completion of the crown can be observed in trees older than 20 years. Its shoots are elongated and shortened, like those of larch, branch horizontally, have a prostrate position, needles are up to 1.5-3.5 cm long, grow in bunches of 20-40 pieces on thick shortened
shoots.
Cones with seeds are barrel-shaped, up to 10 cm long and 6 cm wide; oriented strictly upward, do not droop or fall off (like, for example, spruce cones), but crumble into scales and seeds, remaining in an upright position.
The seeds of real cedars, unlike the seeds of the so-called cedar pines, are highly resinous and inedible.
