Huge Lemon Oxheart Tomato is a delightful tomato that is a pleasure to eat and grow.  It also is another member of great tasting oxheart club.  This, along with tomatoes like Curtis Cheek, Giant Heart Climber and Anna Russian should be constants in everybody’s garden.

Huge Lemon Oxheart tomato vines are tall and skinny, they bear a good amount of huge fruits that weigh about 1-1.5 pounds and are in clusters or 2-4.  Wispy leaved vines definitely have to be staked early on, because they easily get top heavy, even without fruit.  My vines showed good disease resistance and were really vibrant all through the summer.  This is an indeterminate variety so expect to get some really nice tomatoes from about the 80th day after transplant.

Huge Lemon Oxheart tomato is medium sweet and mild.  Let it ripen well and you will experience a great tomato that can fit into many different applications. It is a dense tomato with plenty of soft smooth meat and tasty juice.  Make some great tomato sandwiches with this one!  Try it in sauces too, very interesting!  If you really want the full experience, right of of the vine will be the way to go.

     Planting Tips for Heirloom Tomatoes

Most gardeners want to get the most out of these delicious heirloom tomatoes and therefore give them a head start on the growing season.  Start these vegetable seeds indoors in sterile potting mix being sure to keep the temperature above 70 degrees.  Some people prefer to use a grow pad but the top of the fridge has been known to be quite effective as well.

Once the first true leaves appear on your tomato seedlings, transplant into 4" pots until you have completely hardened them off in the garden.  Hardening is a process of exposing the plants more and more to outside temperature until they are hardy enough to tollerat a complete outdoor move.  Generally speaking, by early summer heirloom tomatoes should be transplated into the garden.

Most heirloom varieties are quite productive and will greatly benefit from sturdy supports.  It may also be advisable to add blood and bone to the worked soil to help ensure healthy productive heirloom tomatoes.

Seed Care tips for Heirloom Tomato Seeds

Heirloom seeds are hardy but always take care with your garden seeds to give them the appropriate amount of moisture - not letting the vegetable seeds dry out prematurely or overwatering and possibly having them rot.
