What a charmer for the flower garden! Beautiful white daisies cover Aster Alpinus early in the season. They are ideal for containers and rock gardens, and they are considered to be easy to establish from Aster flower seed.

Aster Alpinus tends to be short-lived; however, it will freely sow its own flower seed if the spent blooms are not deadheaded. Unlike many Aster species, the delicate, pastel daisies of Alpine Aster bloom in late spring and summer. This unusually cold tolerant perennial is native across Canada and Alaska.

The small, oval leaves of Alpine Aster are green to gray-green. Many bright, white daisies with fine petals and golden centers are produced in spring or early summer. Both bees and butterflies are attracted to Asters. Asters plants perform best in full sun, but they will also provide a nice display in partial shade.

Sow Aster seeds indoors in early spring using starter mix. Press flower seed into soil and barely cover. Keep the flower seed damp and transplant plants into the garden 12 inches apart. Aster plants like well-drained soil that has been incorporated with organic matter. They also bloom best when the spent flowers are deadheaded.
