Organic Sweet Pea «Royal Navy Blue»
This dark colored Sweet Pea navy blue will be a deep purple or navy blue depending on soil nutrients. It is one of the darkest blue Sweet Peas in existence. Up to five large, wavy bloom clusters on long, slender stems. Royal Sweet Pea vines are early flowering and can last right up until frost in fall if the summer is cool.
Sweet Peas are perfect cut flowers, so you can spice up the living room with a nice bouquet, and the flowers are pleasantly scented and are carried on long stems for easy arranging.
Grow Blue Sweet Peas in full sun, but in areas of very hot summer weather, provide some afternoon shade for the best performance. Position them away from winds and rotate locations from year to year to prevent Sweet Pea pests. In cold climates plant the flower seed in early spring, as soon as the soil can be worked. In warm climates, plant in October through January for spring bloom.
How To Grow Sweet Pea Flowers From Seed
Sow Sweet Pea flower seeds directly outdoors. Prepare a seed bed by loosening the top 1 - 2 inches of soil and weeding. Sow the flower seeds 2 - 3 inches apart, and thin plants later to 5 - 6 inches apart. When the Sweet Pea seedlings have 3 - 4 pairs of leaves, pinch the top of the seedling, leaving 2 - 3 pairs of leaves. This encourages a more branching habit making the Sweet Pea plants fuller. Have a trellis or wire for annual Sweet Peas to attach to as they will begin to climb very quickly after germination.
