Heliopsis are reliable for their very long season of bloom. Heliopsis seeds are a snap to grow, and soon, the plant will be producing a seemingly never ending supply of cheerful yellow flowers.

The 3 inch Heliopsis flowers are on long stems which make them good for cutting. The plants form a tall, bushy clump of dark green leaves, bearing branching heads of large golden-yellow daisy flowers, semi-double in this selection. Common names for Heliopsis are False Sunflower and Ox-Eye Sunflower.

False Sunflower Heliopsis makes outstanding cut flowers. Removing faded flowers regularly will greatly extend the blooming season. Heliopsis liberally drops its own flower seeds, so deadheading will also help to control the free-sowing. The False Sunflower plant may require staking, particularly when grown in very rich garden soil. It is recommended to divided Heliopsis plants in early spring every 4 - 5 years.

This is a great plant for the busy home gardener who loves his plants to give him more than he deserves. It is a work horse in the summer garden and never once asks for decent soil or proper care. It will even thrive on heavy clay where other flowers refuse to grow. And, as an added benefit, bees, and butterflies will feed on the nectar and visit the garden often!

To get a jump start on the growing season, sow Heliopsis Scabra seeds indoors 6 - 8 weeks before frost season is expected to be over. Use sterile starter mix and gently press the flower seeds into the soil. Pinch back Heliopsis seedlings at time of transplanting to encourage a bushier growth. Directly sowing Heliopsis seeds into prepared soil will also work once temperatures have consistently warmed up.
