Chinese mustard, brown mustard, Indian mustard, leaf mustard, oriental mustard and vegetable mustard / Brassica juncea
Is an annual green manure branched plant up to 1.5 meters high. The lower leaves are incised (with lyre-shaped lobes), the upper ones are whole. The inflorescence is usually corymbose. The pod is tuberculate, with a noticeable midrib and an awl-shaped nose, deflected from the stem at an acute angle.
Enriches the soil with nitrogen, phosphorus, potassium and microelements. used as a phytosanitary crop, repels pests, disinfects bacterial diseases and loosens the soil.
It is also grown to obtain fatty oil (35-45%) from its seeds, used in the baking, confectionery, canning and perfume industries, and essential (allylic) oil, used in medicine in the form of mustard alcohol (2% solution of oil in alcohol ), as an external irritant and distraction. Mustard plasters and table mustard are prepared from mustard powder obtained from mustard cakes. Roots and leaves are eaten as vegetables. A good honey plant.

The phytosanitary effect of mustard is also important; after its planting, the incidence of plant diseases such as late blight, rhizoctonia, tuber scab, fusarium rot, incl. and potatoes. Sowing mustard reduces the number of wireworms in the soil; plowing white mustard in late autumn is also recommended; as a result of disruption of the wireworm's wintering, its death occurs. To increase the effectiveness of wireworm control, the seeding rate of mustard is increased to 5g/m2.
Additionally, mustard powder can be used to protect plants. Dry mustard powder is used to pollinate the soil to protect against slugs, and mustard infusion is sprayed on fruit trees 15-20 days after flowering to combat leaf-eating insects and codling moth caterpillars. Gooseberries are sprayed in the first half of summer against moth and sawfly. The same infusion can be used to treat cabbage and root vegetables against aphids, bedbugs, and thrips. Preparation of infusion: 100 grams of dry mustard per 10 liters of water, infused for 2 days, filtered. Dilute twice before use.
White mustard seeds have a more delicate and piquant taste compared to black and Sarepta mustard. Mustard seed is used whole or in ground form for canning vegetables, mushrooms, fish, for preparing vegetable dishes (white and red cabbage), meat soups, minced meat, etc. Mustard powder is used for preparing beef and pork meat, various game , cold and hot gravies.
