Flowers are in rounded clusters at the top of the plant and the tip of stems arising from leaf axils in the upper plant. The blooming stems elongate as the plant matures, with blooms just at the top and fruit developing below.
Individual flowers are yellow, from less than ¼ inch up to 1/3 inch across, with 4 rounded petals and 6 yellow-tipped stamens, 2 of which are shorter than the others. It is commonly known as treacle-mustard, or wormseed wallflower. The treacle mustard name came from the Greek word 'theriaki' meaning antidote to poisonous bites.
As the plant was thought to have healing properties. The name 'wormseed mustard' arose from the seeds of the plan being made into treacle, to treat intestinal worms in children. Herbalists in the 16th century, used the plant as a remedy for insect and animal bites.
