A relatively low - 12-15 (20) m tree, in free standing with a wide-round, loose crown.
Homeland - Japan. Grows in mountain and valley broad-leaved forests. Leaves pinnate, 40-100 cm long, with 11-17 leaflets. Leaves are light green in summer, light yellow in autumn.
Fruits are round or oblong-ovoid (variable in shape). A walnut with a pointed top, irregularly tuberous, with two longitudinal ribs. It is similar to walnut, but much ahead in taste, not bitter. Due to the simpler shape of the kernel, it is much easier to clean, however, the kernel is inferior to the walnut in size (up to 4 cm).
Blooms in the first half of May. The fruits ripen in late September - early October.
Grows fast. At the age of 20, it reaches a height of 12 m with a trunk diameter of 20 cm.
In Ukraine, it bears fruit abundantly and regularly, it is quite winter-hardy, it is not damaged even in harsh winters.
It is less demanding on soil than Manchurian walnut and walnut, but thrives on rich, well-drained soils.
It is decorative with its large feathery foliage and a beautiful wide-rounded crown. It is of interest for breeding work, as it has tasty fruits, rich in fat and more frost-resistant than walnuts.
