The tree is up to 25 (30) m high. The bark is dark gray, lamellar exfoliating in old trees, sometimes to a greater extent with deep grooves; the bark of young twigs is bare, brownish-reddish. Shoots at first with silky white pubescence, soon falling off.
Buds are oblong, ovate, glabrous, 5-7 (8) mm long, 3-4 mm wide, with three renal scales, of which the first covers about half of the base of the kidney, and does not exceed its middle in height.
The name can be pronounced like an average linden tree.
