Organic Aster «Sky-blue»
Sky-blue pompom-flowered aster (Callistephus chinensis) belongs to the odd members of the aster family. This plant, commonly grown in home gardens, strikes with a characteristic bushy habit and a height up to 50 cm.
The beautiful blooms, that reach 4-5 cm in diameter, take on magnificent sky-blue colour. This aster variety is recommended to be planted with other plants producing pastel-coloured flowers. That way a subtle, fairy-tale-like composition will be made. Inflorescences that sit atop long and stiff stems are perfectly fitted for cut flowers. As you would soon be able to see, asters will adorn our borders, flower beds and home interiors during the long summer months.
Early spring is the ideal time for sowing asters. You start the cultivation at home in boxes or on seeding trays. If you provide them with steady humidity and temperature in range of 16-20°C, germination should start within two weeks. Young plants are transferred to the garden only after the last frosts and planted on 30 x 30 cm spacings. Asters will thrive on a sunny border with a permeable soil rich in nutrients and water.
