"Connie" Princess aster (Callistephus chinensis) is an annual plant developing an erect and compact habit and reaching 75-80 cm in height. It develops semi-double crimson-pink inflorescences that sit atop the main stem and side shoots.

Stems of this aster variety are stiff, erect and broadly branching. Dentate, oval or spiky leaves cover the shoots and gather in a characteristic "collar" under the flower head. "Connie" aster is recommended for cultivation on borders and large containers. It may be used as cut flower.

"Connie" aster is usually grown from seedlings prepared under covers. For that purpose seeds are sown from mid-March to April into boxes. Seedlings are pricked out to separate pots after they have developed the second true leaf. Well developed seedlings are transplanted to the permanent site in the second half of May in 30 x 40 cm spacings. You may also sow seeds directly to the target site mid-May. These plants prefer sunny site with fertile, humous and constantly moist soils.
