This prolific variety with double, large chrysanthemum-like blooms usually grows 90 cm tall. It starts to bloom in July, after the Sweet William, cornflower and ornamental garlic, that it can replace on a multi-species border. Its vividly red flower heads consisting of hundreds of tongue-shaped petals look great accompanied by all late summer and early autumn plants. Durability of the stems and flowers of the red chrysanthemum-flowered aster "Flame" is considered one of its biggest advantages.
Seeds of this undemanding annual plant are sown in the first half of spring to production pots or at a sheltered, sunny seed bed. Strong seedlings are transplanted to borders in May on a sunny site. Asters thrive in all moderately permeable garden soils. These plants cease to bloom only after the late autumn frosts.
