The Californian Poppy Golden West is a spectacular bloomer producing beautiful golden Poppies with orange hearts. It readily establishes from California Poppy flower seeds, and it is highly drought-tolerant and tends to perform well in just about any environment, even arid and inhospitable ones.
When planted in mass groupings, California Poppies have tremendous visual appeal. You will not be disappointed with the beauty and performance of yellow Poppies! Poppy uses include creating colorful meadows, naturalized areas, as well as in the wildflower garden.
How to Grow
Must be sown directly as they will not tolerate being transplanted. Sow after danger of frost has passed. Sow 1mm deep into prepared soil that has been raked to a fine tilth. Sow in short drills with rows 30cm apart. Germination takes 14-21 days at 20°C. Thin seedlings to 15cm spacing by early summer. Requires full sun, flowers will not open in the shade. Water well if dry. Should flower in the first year. Cut and come again variety. Cut flowers regularly to encourage growth and to prolong flowering window. Deadhead if you do not want it to self-seed.
