Perennial, but more often grown as an annual or two-year liana, reaching a length of 8-10 meters. The leaves are thick, semi-succulent, have a mild flavor, light aroma and slimy texture. Unusual white-pink flowers are collected in spike-shaped inflorescences in the leaf axils. They never open, but immediately turn into fleshy berries, almost black and shiny in full ripeness. It blooms at room temperature all year round.

Location: bright, sunny or light partial shade. Does not grow in full shade.

Watering: likes abundant watering, but tolerates short drought easily. Does not like stagnant water.

Fertilizer: 2 times a month, alternating organic and mineral fertilizers. The NPK 10–10–20 formula works best.

    Prefers humus-rich well-drained soils with a pH of 5.5–7.0.

The ideal temperature for growth and flowering is 20-35 ° C all year round. The aerial part of the plant can be damaged at temperatures below 5 ° C and will die instantly at temperatures below 0 ° C. The rhizome can withstand temperatures as low as -15 ° C outdoors.

Propagated by seeds, cuttings. Soak the seeds for a day in warm water. Plant not deeply, no more than 0.5-1 cm. Germinate in a bright, warm place at a temperature of 18-22 ° C. The soil should remain moist at all times (but not wet).

The stems of the plant are very succulent and fragile, break easily, so they need good, reliable support.

The name can be pronounced like Basela.
