  • Berry and salad plant Zhminda (strawberry spinach)

This is a berry and salad culture. It is grown by sowing in the ground in early spring or before winter, as well as seedlings. Very cold-resistant, drought-resistant, early ripening. When shoots appear in April, the first fruits ripen in June.
Jminda berries are very aromatic and sweet . Used for jam, jelly, etc. The plant is extremely decorative, each stem is studded with bright red berries, very effective against the backdrop of green spaces.

As soon as the soil thaws, spinach seeds are sown directly into the soil according to the 40x40 cm scheme, several seeds in one hole to a depth of 0.3 cm. After watering, the soil in the holes is mulched with a thin layer of humus. After the formation of two true leaves, the seedlings are thinned out, leaving one plant in each hole. The excess ones are seated in an empty place, trying not to damage the roots.

It develops quickly and forms powerful rosettes of light green leaves (7x6 cm) on long petioles, and then stems that branch out and form bushes about 80 cm high. After that, seedlings appear in the leaf axils. Initially orange-red, as they ripen, they become densely crimson, juicy, shiny. The taste of ripe berries is very pleasant and resembles a mulberry or blackberry-raspberry hybrids. The berries ripen gradually, starting from the lower shoots, the first ones already 1.5 months after sowing.

Unpretentious plant. Grows easily in any soil, in full sun or partial shade. However, it prefers a warm climate and fertile soil rich in calcium compounds. Harvesting can be carried out in several stages all summer until frost, since ripe berries do not fall off for a long time.

To frostspinach is very stable and can withstand temperature drops in both spring and autumn down to -10 ° C. The heat also does not harm the plant. This cute plant can be used to decorate a decorative garden, a garden with wildflowers or a composition in a container. Good jam, delicious juices and compotes are made from berries. Leaves can be added to soups and salads.
