Evergreen tree of the Cypress family (Cupressaceae); the only species of the genus Cryptomeria. The plant is also called Japanese cedar. Considered the national tree of Japan. The Chinese name for this tree is Shan (Chinese 杉), the Japanese name is Sugi (杉) is gradually replacing the old name - Japanese cedar or Japanese redwood, which is erroneous, since the tree does not belong to the genus Cedar (Cedrus).

 
It has an incredibly impressive appearance. Despite the highest decorative appeal, this plant is grown by a very small number of amateurs. This is by no means due to the fact that it is very demanding to care for. The thing is that cryptomeria takes up quite a lot of space, and most gardeners prefer to grow useful trees on their site, for example, such as pears or apple trees. Of course, you can grow it in the house, but not everyone can find a suitable place there. In this regard, this tree is grown only by true amateurs.
 
This evergreen tree has many external similarities with Araucaria. Its crown is pyramidal, and the dark green needles with a bluish tint are 3- and 4-sided. In Europe, they learned about this plant only in 1842. Since that time, cryptomeria has been considered a valuable plant for landscape design.

This evergreen tree is used in Japan to make bonsai. Some gardeners who really like cryptomeria grow it at home. This very beautiful tree with a neat crown feels great indoors. On average, it can grow up to 2 meters in height. In the winter garden, hall, as well as on balconies or terraces, this plant also feels quite good.
