You do not have to start your blueberries from cuttings or nursery shrubs. For the patient gardener, though, growing blueberry shrubs from seed can give you excellent results.

Called "Queen of the Herbs" in Ireland, where its tendency to grow under elder trees imbued it with elder’s magical reputation. In England it became a common treatment for "king’s evil," or scrofula (tuberculosis of the lymphatic glands).

Much grown in the tropics for its delicious fruits. In this country it is grown for interest and as a foliage plant as it has large, handsome leaves. The leaves can be used for wrapping round pieces of tough meat with the object of tenderising them.

The species is hermaphrodite (has both male and female organs) and is pollinated by Insects. It is noted for attracting wildlife. The bark is pale grey-brown and irregularly ridged, with characteristic large burrs and leaf shoots at the base of the tree.

An annual plant with creeping side shoots, 50-70 cm long, funnel-shaped flowers, 7-9 cm in diameter, completely covering the plant during flowering, forming a purple-burgundy cascade.

A tall plant with handsome dark green lemon-scented leaves, its appearance is reminiscent of hyssop or lavender, with showy lavender-blue flowers reaching 45cm/18cm. A nice addition to bee and butterfly gardens, the plant will bloom most of the summer.

Every herb garden needs to have this versatile perennial! It is highly regarded as a beneficial medicinal herb and has been widely used for the last 2000 years in both foods and in medicines. It is native to Europe.

Is an annual plant. The stems are erect, branched, forming compact bushes 30-35 cm high. The flowers are bell-shaped, white, pink and blue.
