Fruit - raw or cooked. Sub-acid, dry and mealy. Our experience has been that the fruit is sweet and somewhat juicy, it has a thick flesh with a nice flavour and makes an acceptable dessert fruit. The fruit can also be used in making pies, preserves etc.

Wild Service Tree seeds have a deep dormancy within them, this requires a degree of patience to overcome and it is usually quite easy to get high levels of germination if the correct procedures are followed.

The native, wild Crabapple tree, Malus sylvestris, is an excellent hedging plant, commonly planted in mixed country hedges. It makes a decent, if unevenly shaped, ornamental tree for an average sized garden and it will also pollinate orchard apples.

Robinia pseudoacacia, commonly known as the Black Locust or False Acacia is a member of the pea family and has nitrogen-fixing bacteria on its root system; for this reason it can grow on poor soils and is an early colonizer of disturbed areas.
