Ripening time is 90–100 days. The plant is perennial. This is a productive variety that bears fruit all summer, until frost. The fruits ripen from light green to brilliant orange-yellow. A mature pepper is 3-4 cm long and weighs 3 grams. Its taste is a mixture of spicy and sweet. The strong heat is equal to that of a habanero, but the flavor is more complex, sweeter and fruitier. This variety became famous thanks to the residents of St. Augustine, Florida, USA. They liked the pepper so much that it became a local monument.
Numerous regional delicacies began to be prepared from it: excellent hot sauces, jellies, mustard, which are sold throughout the city. Every October, the annual Datil Pepper Festival takes place here.
