This is a beautiful, densely leafy vine, native to China, reaching a height of 15-20 m, with large, odd-pinnate leaves, pubescent in youth, later bare, showy light purple, less often white, flowers. in hanging, loose clusters up to 30 cm long.
Blooming in spring, it retains individual flowering clusters throughout the summer. The fruit is a densely pubescent bean up to 15 cm long. Very light-loving, demanding of soil, prefers moist and deep fertile soils. Tolerates city conditions and short-term temperature drops to minus 20°C. It grows very quickly, twisting counterclockwise. It is also decorative for its beautiful, graceful, feathery foliage, which takes on a golden-yellow color in autumn. With systematic pruning, it can be grown in a tree-like, erect, standard form, used in single plantings on the lawn.
Propagated by sowing seeds, layering, stem and root cuttings. Seeds remain viable for 3 - 4 years. Seeds are sown in autumn or spring without stratification. Planting depth is 2 - 3 cm. In spring, seeds are sown in flat pots in soil made of deciduous soil, turf soil and sand (4: 1: 1). Cuttings are taken in March-April. One-year-old mature shoots 20-25 cm long are cut into cuttings. Root in soil made from turf, peat, humus and sand (3:1:1:1). In dry spring, plants should be watered well so that the buds do not fall off.
Wisterias are grown not only in open ground. It feels good in pots and flowerpots in the form of a standard tree, which can be obtained with the help of proper pruning. In autumn, such plants are brought into a room with a temperature of 8-10°C with an air humidity of 65-75% and bright lighting. In winter, water very sparingly. In March, young side shoots are pruned to 2-3 good buds, forming a crown. In summer, take it out into the open air and water it abundantly.
