Sweet chestnut seeds / Castanea sativa

Fruit - raw or cooked. Sub-acid, dry and mealy. Our experience has been that the fruit is sweet and somewhat juicy, it has a thick flesh with a nice flavour and makes an acceptable dessert fruit. The fruit can also be used in making pies, preserves etc.

The Cornelian Cherry or Cherry Dogwood is an early blooming small dogwood bearing tiny yellow flowers. A year-round ornamental with nice fall colors and edible 3/4-inch bright scarlet berries.

Cotoneaster is a low growing, colorful shrub with attractive small flowers, berries and fall foliage color. The long spreading branches look particularly attractive when grown to cascade down a wall or bank. It can also be used as a ground cover.

Robinia pseudoacacia, commonly known as the Black Locust or False Acacia is a member of the pea family and has nitrogen-fixing bacteria on its root system; for this reason it can grow on poor soils and is an early colonizer of disturbed areas.
