Organic Pearlbush «Niagara» (Exochorda racemosa)
This is actually called a pearl bush and flowers long and abundantly with cascades of beautiful, pure white blooms! So lovely to see! This ornamental shrub is compact growing with a bushy growth, remains low and grows wide. The beautiful pearl bush (Exochorda racemose 'Niagara') is ideal for the smaller garden or a large planter on the patio/decking.
Before any leaves emerge in mid-spring, the white blossoms cover the drooping branches. Each blossom has five petals and appears on racemes, short-stemmed spikes. Tongue-shaped leaves are matte green with little teeth on the rounded tips, attaining yellow tones in fall. The star-shaped seed capsules linger into winter on the bare branches.
Grow 'Niagara' in full sun to light shade in any deep, fertile soil, regardless of pH. Growth is best on moist soils with good drainage. In shallow or highly alkaline soils the growth is particularly scraggy. Tolerant of drought once established, this shrub is low maintenance and easy-to-grow. Consider cutting back branches immediately after flowering to help maintain a more picturesque shrub silhouette every two to three years. Incorporated this mounded shrub into a mixed border or as an low, dense, informal hedge.
