Dark blue Chinese aster (Callistephus chinensis) "Contraster" combines compact, clustered habit and small size (30-40 cm in height) with unusual ornamental value that results from magnificent, double flower heads built of hundreds tightly packed dark blue ray flowers.
You can easily see stripes on the narrow petals what adds more richness to the flower head. Dark blue Chinese aster "Contraster" tufts will adorn a pot or border. They fit particularly well into narrow edgings. It is highly recommended to set it up with the contrasting, pink variety. This aster will also look great accompanied by other asters, e.g. needle-petal and Princess varieties.
Seeds of those unproblematic annual plants should be sown in spring to boxes and pots filled with permeable standard garden soil or special seeding soil. Containers should be kept indoors until the last spring frosts are gone. Seedlings may than be transplanted into open air, preferably to a sunny site with humous, light and not too dry soil. The first flowers can be expected in June. Next blooms will appear continuously until October
