Organic Common Fig (Ficus Carica)
Fig trees yield one of the great fruits of the world - mentioned in ancient texts as a staple of human diets since the beginning of recorded history. Figs come in a variety of sizes and colors and are very easy to grow.
Fig trees are all self-fertile and very productive. A fertile well-drained soil is recommended along with plentiful sunlight for maximum production. The chill hour requirements are few, if any, and most varieties are cold tolerant at least to 20 degrees with a few exceptions that are hardy into the single digits. When planting fig trees, do not apply fertilizers and set the tree 2 to 4 inches deeper than it was grown in the nursery. Fig trees need to be watered on a regular basis to be healthy and produce abundant crops.
