  • Organic Oilseed Sunflower «Ukraine Honey»/ Helianthus annuus

Species of herbaceous plants from the genus Sunflower of the Asteraceae family. The popular name is sunflower. An annual herbaceous plant.

One of the highest oil-bearing varieties registered on the territory of Ukraine! Variety early 100 days growing season. Oil content 50-54%.

A characteristic feature of the variety is high resistance to the complex of top races 97-100%. resistant to downy mildew, not damaged by verticillium, sunflower moth. Drought resistant. The variety has a high adaptability and therefore is grown in different agro-climatic zones of Ukraine. The recommended plant density of the variety is 35-40 thousand plants/ha before harvesting for the Steppe zone and 42-45 thousand plants/ha for the Forest-Steppe zone.

The root system of oilseed sunflower is pivotal, it penetrates into the soil by 2-3 m, which allows it to use the moisture of deep horizons.

Stem 0.6-2.5 m, erect, mostly unbranched, covered with stiff hairs. Inside the stem is a soft, elastic core.

The leaves are alternate, on long petioles, the upper ones are sessile, the lower ones are opposite, green, oval-heart-shaped with pointed ends, with a plate up to 40 cm long, pubescent with short stiff hairs (which provides it with greater drought resistance), with serrated edges.

Flowers in apical, very large inflorescences-baskets, surrounded by involucre leaves, 30-50 cm in diameter, like buds, at a young age "stretch" to the sun and change their orientation from east to west during the day (see heliotropism), however, as it matures and blooms, the plant will lock into position, pointing roughly to the east, while young leaves still continue to exhibit this behavior.
Marginal flowers reed, 4-7 cm long, usually sterile; internal - tubular, bisexual, numerous (500-2000). The color of the flowers is from light yellow to dark orange, sometimes purple. Corolla five-membered.

Fruits are oblong-ovate achenes, slightly granular, slightly compressed, 7-15 mm long and 4-8 mm wide, with a leathery pericarp, white, gray, striped or black. They consist of a pericarp (peel, or husk) and a white seed (kernel), covered with a seed coat. In the pericarp of modern sunflower varieties, between the sclerenchyma and cork tissue, there is a shell layer, so that the achenes are not damaged by the sunflower moth. According to morphological characteristics, the fruits are divided into groups: gnaw, oilseed and mezheumok. The color of the achenes of the oil group is predominantly dark gray with a slight banding, black-coal, rarely gray with stripes; gnaw - gray with stripes, rarely white.

Flavonoids (quercimerythrin), coumarin glycoside scopolin, triterpene saponins, sterols (sitosterolin glycoside), carotenoids (β-carotene, cryptoxanthin, taraxanthin), phenolcarboxylic acids (chlorogenic, neochlorogenic, coffee), anthocyanins were found in leaves and flowers. The seeds contain fatty oil (about 40%, sometimes up to 50-52%), proteins (up to 20%), carbohydrates (up to 25%), sterols, carotenoids, phospholipids. The seeds contain vitamin PP and E, as well as polyunsaturated fatty acids (especially linoleic), etc.
