    Salvia verticillata is a spectacular first year flowering perennial. The irresistible deep purple petals gather like raindrops in tiered pools to form whorled flowers.

    At about 50cm (20in) tall and half as wide. Broad, opposite, lyre-shaped leaves provide a solid base for the tall, branching stems.
