The tree in its homeland is up to 8-10 m tall, in the conditions of the Lviv Botanical Garden at 15 years the height is slightly more than 2 m and the crown diameter is the same size. The crown is round-pyramidal, densely leafy with a short trunk. The branches are widely spread with numerous lateral shoots, red-brown, sometimes with thorns.
The leaves are ovate or elliptical with a pointed apex and a rounded wedge-shaped base, sharply serrate on short shoots, coarsely serrate-toothed on long vegetative shoots, 3, less often 5-lobed, green, yellow-orange or red-orange in autumn.
The buds are pink, the flowers are white, numerous in flat corymbs, flowering in late May-early June, with a pleasant aroma.
Numerous fruits, spherical, small, decorative, yellow-brown or red-orange, remain on the tree for a long time. The pulp is orange-yellow, bitter-tart, sour.
The growth rate is average. Photophilous.
Prefers fertile, fresh, moist soils. Poor growth on heavy soils.
Sensitive to elevated temperatures, in areas with dry and hot climates it blooms for 2-4 days, the flowers fade, and sheds its foliage early.
Resistant to fungal diseases, incl. scab, good in urban conditions.
Plant in sunny and sheltered areas.
Responds well to feeding.
It tolerates pruning and shearing well. Recovers well and keeps its shape. Sanitary pruning in spring is recommended.
