While there are several cool season legumes grown as field crops in the U.S. (such as chickpeas, lentils, lupines, and faba beans), there are relatively few alternative legumes that are heat and drought tolerant.

Early with delicious, buttery flavor and tender-firm texture. Plump, pale green pods average three seeds per pod. Compact plants average 2 feet tall and have a concentrated set which allows for hand or machine harvest.

Chia is an annual herb that belongs to the mint family. It is popularly known from the “Chia Pet” products. When moistened the chia seeds will stick to surfaces where they can then germinate.

An annual plant, an upright bush, up to 40-50 cm high, flowers up to 5 cm in diameter, double, of various colors, used mainly for group plantings, flower beds, borders and for cutting, has good medicinal properties.
