A colorful perennial from the Carnation family. Bright crimson inflorescences on a long stem resemble wonderful lanterns, as if illuminating the front garden with a fabulous light. People call the plant adonis or dawn, the literal meaning is "lamp".
Quite resilient, undemanding to weather conditions and easy to care for, this cute "lamp" has long been loved by gardeners. You can easily grow adonis if you follow our recommendations.
Characteristics:- the bush is straight, slightly foliated, up to 50 cm in height;
- the flowers are pink, up to 1.5 cm in size, collected in spherical inflorescences up to 10-12 cm in diameter;
- blooms from May-June for 60-75 days, in the second year after planting.
Lychnis is traditionally placed in a flowerbed in the second or third row of a flower arrangement or along borders. Group plantings in the middle of a lawn look very unusual and chic. It goes well in a mixborder, rock garden with other garden crops: gaillardia, bells, nivyak, primrose. An interesting solution would be a mix of different shades of lychnis.
Features of cultivation:- lychnis is planted in open ground in late April-early May to a depth of 1-1.5 cm;
- shoots will appear in 2-3 weeks at an average daily temperature of + 18-20 degrees;
- for flowering in the year of planting, lychnis is propagated by seeds through seedlings, after hardening the seeds in the refrigerator for 2-4 weeks;
- containers are placed on the window and periodically moistened, moving to a permanent place in May;
- Lychnis can be sown before winter, in November, without watering the crops;
- prefers sunny areas with moderately moist, non-acidic soil without stagnant water;
- weeding, watering during drought, removing dry buds, spring fertilizing are recommended;
- frost-resistant, winters without shelter.
