  • Rhododendron fortunei

    Is an evergreen fast-growing species with delicate pinkish-white flowers. At the age of ten, the shrub reaches 0.6–0.7 m in height, while in adulthood it can grow up to 2.5 m with a crown diameter of up to 1.5 m. The growth rate is up to 15 cm per year. The leaves are elongated, green, bluish underneath, 7–10 cm long and 3–8 cm wide.

    The flowers have a strong pleasant fragrance, initially soft pink and later creamy white, large, up to 9 cm in diameter, gathered in clusters of 6–12. Flowering begins in mid-May and lasts about four weeks. The plant starts blooming from the fourth year of life.

    Rhododendron fortunei should be planted in acidic, organic-rich soil. During drought, it requires mandatory watering. Winter hardiness is moderate.

    It is used in landscape design for creating various compositions, flower beds, and alpine gardens.
