Organic Rhododendron Flore Roseum Seeds

This is a deciduous shrub with a cushion-shaped, widely spreading crown. When young, the plants appear dense and compact, but over time the crown acquires an asymmetrical shape. The shoots are thin, strong, densely branched, colored in a gray-brown shade. The leaves are small, up to 6 cm long, elongated-lanceolate, pubescent, green. Young leaves appear simultaneously with the opening of buds, creating a harmonious combination of foliage and flowers.  

The flowers are large, up to 8 cm in diameter, funnel-shaped, lily-like, colored pink with a lilac hue. On the upper petal there is a bright orange pattern, giving the flower special expressiveness. The buds are pink, gathered in spherical inflorescences of 8–10 pieces. Flowering is accompanied by a pleasant fragrance that fills the garden in May.  

The shrub reaches 1.0–1.5 m in height and width. Flowering occurs in May and lasts quite a long time, decorating the garden with bright spring colors.  

For cultivation, semi-shady places or light sun protected from the wind are best suited. In open sun the flowers fade quickly, so it is important to choose the right location. The soil should be fresh, fertile, well-drained and acidic (pH 4.5–5). Regular watering is necessary, but overwatering is unacceptable. The use of specialized fertilizers for rhododendrons has a beneficial effect.  

For winter, the root collar is covered with sawdust and sheltered with agro-fabric. The shelter is made before the onset of frost and removed in spring when the soil has completely thawed. The shrub can be shaped immediately after flowering, before the process of laying new flower buds begins. Faded buds are not cut but carefully broken off so as not to damage young shoots.  

In landscape design, this rhododendron looks beautiful both in solitary and group plantings with coniferous and deciduous plants. It is used in rockeries, alpine hills, rocky gardens, under large trees where lawn does not grow. It is also suitable for growing in containers on a terrace, in a protected and shaded place. Thanks to its decorative qualities, the shrub is excellent for creating mass plantings and bright garden accents.
