"Chochlik" aster (Callistephus chinensis) is a dwarf variety that grows 20-30 cm tall, develops a compact habit and double, amaranth coloured, peony-shaped flower heads.

These inflorescences reach 3-4 cm in diameter and develop one-by-one atop the main stem and side stems. Asters bloom abundantly and long, starting in July and continuing until October. Aster stems are stiff, erect and branched. Dentate, oval or spiky leaves cover them and gather in a characteristic "collar" under the flower heads. "Chochlik" aster is suited for cultivation on borders, flower beds and planting on edgings, in pots and balcony boxes.

"Chochlik" aster is usually grown from seedlings prepared under covers. For that purpose seeds are sown from mid-March to April into boxes. Seedlings are pricked out to separate pots after they have developed the second true leaf. Well developed seedlings are transplanted to the permanent site in the second half of May in 25-30 x 30-35 cm spacings. You may also sow seeds directly to the target site mid-May. These plants prefer sunny sites with fertile, humous and constantly moist soils. One package contains 0.5 g of "Chochlik" dwarf aster seeds, as well as the sow-by date and a growing guide.
