Sweet Peas are a very colorful vining plant with large fragrant blooms, and they grow so easily from Sweet Peas seeds. The plant has long stems so it makes an excellent cut flower, and is a wonderful addition to any flower garden.

This Sweet Peas Royal mix will get 72 - 84 inches tall, so support is necessary. It will bloom all summer long, giving you a delightful mix of colors and always the sweet light scent.

Royal Sweet Pea flowers need full sun and rich, well-drained soil. They do best if the seed is sown in the area they will grow. During the growing season, use nitrogen fertilizer sparingly since too much will cause lots of plant growth and fewer flowers. When the plants are 3 - 6 inches tall, pinch the tops to encourage side shoots. Water regularly, especially in high heat to keep the flowers cool, and dead head the spent flowers to keep the plant blooming.

For best germination, Sweet Pea flower seeds need to be scarified before sowing. Nicking the seed with a nail clipper breaks the outer coat of the flower seeds so they can absorb water immediately. By doing this a larger percentage of the seeds will germinate and they will sprout a few days earlier. After nicking the seed, soak the Sweet Peas seeds over night in tepid water.

Sow scented Sweet Pea seeds directly outdoors. Prepare a seed bed by loosening the top 1 - 2 inches of soil and weeding. Sow Sweet Peas seeds 2 - 3 inches apart, and thin plants later to 5 - 6 inches apart. Have a trellis or wire for the annual Sweet Pea vine to attach to as they will begin to climb very quickly after germination.
